Danny's hit the nail on the head there. I had the same thing in one of these races, was giving my bets to games that barely moved the needle while the punters on the right pokies shot past me like I was parked. Went through a decent chunk of my session money learning that lesson, and the prize I scraped didn't really cover the extra chasing I did to climb. So these days I'd say only chase the leaderboard if the games you actually enjoy scoring on line up with what counts, otherwise the wagering eats you alive. Been down that road more times than I'd like to admit 😄

The points-per-game question is the real one, Dave - I copped a dead machine or two last race where I was feeding bets in and climbing nowhere near as fast as the blokes on the pokies scoring double. My rule is simple: only chase the leaderboard with the same bet per spin I'd run clearing wagering anyway, otherwise the prize gets eaten by the grind 😭 If some games count more toward the score, that changes the whole maths.
Cashing out in time is half the battle.
